2011/12 Competition Round-Up

What a year it’s been for Belfast Fencing Club! BFC fencers, junior and senior have competed all over the UK and Ireland and have achieved some impressive results.

On the senior scene, 16 year old Victoria Duxbury finishes the year as Senior Irish Women’s Foil Champion, Cadet (U17) Irish Women’s Foil Champion and placed number 2 in the Senior Irish Women’s Foil rankings, only a single point behind the number 1. Victoria also holds 26th place in the UK Senior Women’s Foil rankings and 19th in the UK Cadets (U17). Following in her footsteps is 14 year old Rachel Philpott, whose continual improvement has taken her to number 5 in the Irish rankings. In men’s foil, Peter Brown’s consistantly strong performances thoughout the year have taken him to the No. 3 spot in the Irish rankings, while Callum Bodels’ results have carried him up the Senior British rankings to 86. Victoria and Callum also achieved selection to fence for N Ireland in the 2012 UK School Games, where Victoria won bronze with the NI women’s foil team. Victoria also competed for N Ireland at the Junior Commonwealth Championships in Jersey.

The BFC juniors have been no less successful in competition and were well represented in the 2011/12 N Ireland Junior Foil Series. BFC juniors won 3 out of the 5 age group Championships in the series: Finn McMullan in the Under 10s, Keziah Beattie in the Under 14 Girls and Jake Bodels in the Under 14 Boys. These results, along with the performances of many of our other junior fencers, a direct result of the coaching at BFC provided by our advanced coach Katie Arup.
