It’s Jan 6th and the first competition of the new year is already over! Three BFC fencers made the trip yesterday to Edinburgh’s Meadowbank Sports Centre for the 2013 Scottish Open: Victoria for the women’s foil, Callum and Peter for the men’s. The poules went well for all three, with Victoria winning 8 from 8 over 2 rounds, Peter 9/10 and Callum 4/10. In the direct elimination, after 2 tough fights, Victoria made it through to the semis, but was knocked out by the UK WF No 8 Chloe Dickson. In MF, after an impressive performance in the poules, Peter got a bye into the L32 but was then narrowly beaten 15-13. Callum fought his way into the L32 but then lost to the UK MF No.6 and eventual winner Keith Cook. However, for Callum and Peter the day’s fencing wasn’t yet over, as they qualified for a secondary competition. Both entered for this, which Peter won, with Callum coming second. Well done all three! BFC results:
Women’s Foil – Victoria 3rd.
Men’s Foil – Peter 17th, Callum 27th.
Secondary Men’s Foil – Peter 1st, Callum 2nd.
