Last Saturday Victoria travelled to Bratislava in Slovakia to compete in her first World Cup Junior A Grade event. In an international field of 142, she won 2 from 5 in her poule and then went on to finish 103rd. Well done Victoria!

Well done to all BFC fencers who turned out for last weekend’s 2013 Derry Open in Foyle College. In MF there were 2 medal winners, silver for Stephen and bronze for Callum, with Alastair and Kieran finishing in the last 8. In WF Rachel won bronze, Keziah was 5th and two of our junior fencers, Carly and Emily, increased their competition experience with 9th and 11th placings. Gerry also turned out for his first event of the year in ME. Results below.

Following her recent West of Ireland win and last 8 finish in the Welsh Open, Victoria moves up to No.1 in the Irish women’s foil rankings. Also, after his recent West of Ireland win and 3rd place at the Welsh, Stephen is now 2nd in the Irish men’s foil. Well done both!
Three BFC fencers travelled to Cardiff last weekend for this year’s Welsh Open: Victoria, Callum and Stephen. Callum was knocked out by the no.1 seed to finish 30th, while Stephen put in a superb day’s fencing to win bronze. Victoria also put in a great performance to finish 8th in WF.
Keziah and Theo continued their pursuit of British Cadet (U17) ranking points last weekend at the year’s 4th BSC event held at the University of East London in the capital’s Docklands. Keziah finished 25th in WF and Theo 34th in MF.
Three BFC fencers were selected to fence for N Ireland in the annual Five Nations competition, held this year in Edinburgh on 2nd Nov. The women’s foil team including Victoria and Rachel finished third, while in men’s foil the NI team including Peter finished fourth. The NI team finished fourth overall. Last weekend, 26th and 27th October, seven BFC fencers made the trip to the West of Ireland Open in Galway. Victoria won gold in WF, with Rachel taking bronze. In MF Stephen won gold, Alastair bronze, with Peter, Conor and David finishing 8th, 14th and 16th.
