The 2nd round of the NIJFS took place last weekend at RBAI in Belfast city centre. The BFC junior section were well represented and brought home an impressive medal haul. In the U12s Matthew McKay won bronze, while in the U14s, Rachel Smyth won silver and Ben Young bronze. Notable BFC success in the U16s where Keziah, Emily and Iona were 1st, 2nd and 3rd, while Theo and Darragh were 1st and 3rd in the U16 boys. Full BFC results below.

On the 14th Victoria made the lengthy trip to Leszno in Poland for her second Junior World Cup event, a trip which included a four and a half hour rail journey from Warsaw. In a tough poule she won one fight and lost two 4-5, finishing 61st from 77. This along with her Bratislava result gives her a world ranking of 225. Victoria’s next European event will be in Zagreb, Croatia on 18th Jan 2014.
Following her selection to the British WF Cadet (U17) team, Keziah travelled to Cabries near Marseilles in the south of France for her first European Circuit International Cadet competition on 7/8 December. On the Saturday individual event Keziah won 2 fights from 6 in her poule, placing her 133rd from 182 entrants, just missing the cut for the direct elimination at 128. She did however finish 5th highest out of the 15 strong British team. The team event was on the Sunday and consisted of 32 teams, the 15 British girls divided into 5 teams of 3. Keziah was placed in team GBR 4 along with her fellow NI fencer Lucy Taylor, but they unluckily ended up in a very tough poule with Italy 1 and Russia 1. They put up a valiant fight but missed the direct elimination cut and finished 27th.
The Irish Open took place on the weekend 7th/8th December in University College Dublin. In WF Rachel took bronze and Emily narrowly missed the L8 with a 14-15 defeat. In MF Stephen was 5th, while Peter, Alastair and Theo all made L16. Full BFC results below.

BFC will be open next week on Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th December. No fencing on Friday 20th or for the following two weeks. The Club will recommence on Wednesday 8th January.
