2014 East of Ireland Open

Victoria Duxbury and Emily Maginn were BFC’s representatives in the women’s foil last Saturday in the EoI at the UCD campus in Dublin, where both had a perfect start with 10 wins from 10 in two rounds of poules. Victoria went on to win silver, while Emily finished 5th. The men’s epee was also on Saturday, where Gerry Boyle finished 32nd. On Sunday Peter Brown, Conor McClenahan, Alastair Houldsworth and David White all took part in the men’s foil where Peter fought his way through to the semis to win bronze. David finished 13th, Conor 14th and Alastair 17th.

2014 British Cadet and Junior Championships

Three BFC fencers, Keziah Beattie, Rachel Philpott and Theo Millar, took part in the British Cadet and Junior Championships last weekend at the Sportsdock venue at the University of East London. All three are cadets i.e. U17, so fenced in the cadet event on Saturday 8th, but also qualified for the junior (U20) event on Sunday 9th. In women’s foil on Saturday Keziah and Rachel both won 3 from 6 poule fights and went on to finish in the L32, Keziah 23rd and Rachel 27th. In the men’s foil Theo won 5 from 6 in his poule, then went through to the L16 with a tough 15-14 win to finish 12th. In the junior WF poules on Sunday, Keziah won 4 from 6 and Rachel 2 from 5. Rachel finished in the L32 at 22nd, while Keziah defeated fellow NI fencer Olivia Keys in a close fight 15-13 to go into the L16 and finish 11th. In his MF poule, Theo won 2 from 6, but went on to beat a higher seeded fencer in the L64 15-12 to finish 31st. A great weekend’s fencing, well done all three!

2014 Slough Open

Victoria made the trip to Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire last Saturday for the 2014 Slough Open. From an entry of 47 she finished 11th having only lost two fights, one in the poules to the eventual winner and one in the L16 to the eventual silver medallist.
